Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Doctor Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma are on a two-day visit to the Harry Gwala District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

Gungubele says the visit is part of the District Development Model that focuses on improving the delivery of basic services.

“To mobilise all resources provincial, national and local so that optimally we are able to achieve better results. It’s proving to be a successful model in the sense that if you go to areas like Waterberg in Limpopo it has already demonstrated things; if the province’s local and national were not working together. There are economic opportunities, there the economic zone taking place and a number of other issues.”

Gungubele says that the aim of today’s will is to assess the progress that has been made at key construction projects such as the Umzimkhulu Stadium and the water dam construction site in Bulwer.

“The vision of this place is to become a leader in KwaZulu-Natal in terms of water service provision and agriculture and tourism being targeted as key sectors we want to be part of that programme. We want to be companions to make sure we are part of the dream of turning around the lives of the people of Harry Gwala.”
