Government vows to ramp up its vaccination programme

Government has vowed to ramp up its vaccination programme with people between the ages of 18 and 34 scheduled to start getting their vaccination from September 1.

President Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement during his address to the nation on Sunday night on government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The President also said all those eligible for vaccination can just walk into vaccine sites to get their vaccine.

He also said over 31 million vaccines will arrive in the country within the next three months.

Ramaphosa moved the country to Alert Level 3 of the national lockdown following his meeting with the National Coronavirus Command Council, the Presidential Coordinating Committee, and Cabinet.

Twenty thousand three hundred and ninety-two vaccine doses were administered o Sunday, taking the total number of jabs given at the weekend to 62 769.  Over 2.2 million adults have been fully vaccinated, while more than 4-million have received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
