President Ramaphosa concedes that diplomacy is always a challenge.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says government is closely monitoring the situation in Zimbabwe. His comments come after Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa arrived back in his troubled country on Monday after cutting short his European tour to seek trade and investment.

His return to Harare follows growing international criticism, including from the United Nations, of a brutal crackdown on protests against dire economic conditions in the country.

President Ramaphosa concedes that diplomacy is always a challenge.

“There are always challenging moments and we are guided by one principle and one principle only, to foster peace, to silence the guns, to make sure that there’s peace and security on the continent so that the people of our continent can live in peace.”
