Higher Education Minister, Hlengiwe Mkhize says government is ready to implement free education.
On Thursday, Mkhize visited the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) offices in Cape Town to assess its state of readiness.
She called on private businesses to partner with government to resolve accommodation backlogs for students at universities.
“In some countries they have got some social houses of some kind in clusters, because a student accommodation is usually a bed, a table and a shower, it should be affordable so we are hoping that we should be looking at these 35 000 beds we are looking for but also it’s one area where we are looking for private partnerships,” says Mkhize.
