Government must pay attention to the needs, welfare of military veterans: Ramaphosa

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says government must pay attention to specific needs and the welfare of the military veterans.

He was speaking at the MK Unity Conference in East London at the weekend.

The conference brought together both the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association and MK council into one MK structure responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of ex-combatants.

“We need leaders who are exemplary, who set the moral tone, not only for the ANC but for the society as well. Yes, we need leaders that we can trust and admire. We need comrades who share the commitment of MK combatants.”

Last week, ANC Deputy President, David Mabuza called on UMkhonto Wesizwe members to get actively involved in the party’s renewal efforts.  

Mabuza was speaking at The MK Unity Conference in East London in the Eastern Cape.  

The conference brought together both members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association and the MK council to become one MK structure responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of ex-combatants.  

Mabuza urged them to be open to discussing their issues to enable the party for find solutions.

“Above all, I call on you to summon revolutionary courage and discipline, to stand united with each other, to recommit yourself to the renewal of the ANC, and to support the creation of one exMK formation. We call on you to commit to the reinvigoration of discipline within your membership and to always stay alive to the reality that, in your hands, lies the future and destiny of our country and our people.”
