Government and traditional institutions urged to co-exist

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Political analyst and senior researcher at Xubera Institute for Research and Development Xolani Dube says traditional institutions and government will always have confrontations but will always find a way to manoeuvre around it.

Speaking on Morning Live, Dube, says government and traditional leaders always find a solution because there is more at stake which is power and the resources of the country.

He says government and traditional institutions need to find a way to co-exist because both these are not going anywhere.

Dube was speaking following the land Imbizo held by the King of AmaZulu Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu on Wednesday.

Thousands of people attended the Imbizo at Ulundi in the north of the province.

King of AmaZulu warned against any attempt to disband the Ingonyama Trust. He assured audiences that no land would be taken away from the trust.

The trust owns and administers close to 3-million hectares of land in KwaZulu-Natal and leases it to communities.

Parliament’s High Level Panel led by former President Kgalema Montlante recommended that the Ingonyama Trust whose sole trustee is the King be dissolved.
