Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa says the government is working around the clock to ensure that there is sustainable employment in the arts industry.

He has been briefing the media during the South African Cultural Observatory (Saco)’s 2018 international conference in Port Elizabeth.

Researchers are reflecting on job creation, creativity and urban culture amongst others.

Mthethwa says they are intensifying intervention plans into this sector.

“With the government there are a number of areas of intervention. We are looking at how to sharpen the Mzanzi Golden Economy, which Saco is part of, is actually a research arm on how to strengthen other interventions like the debut fund, which is quite new, to see how to make lives better for the artists,” says Mthethwa.
