Lawyer for Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan says his client will appear before the Public Protector, despite a lack of evidence of wrongdoing against him.
Attorney Malatji Kanyane has rubbished claims that the minister ignored letters from the Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s office.
In a letter Gordhan sent to Mkhwebane on Friday through his lawyer Malatji Kanyane Attorneys, the minister responded to the public protector after she took to Twitter claiming that the minister had not responded to her letters during her investigation.
Did you know that PP @AdvBMkhwebane wrote to Minister Gordhan 4 times between February 2018 and July 2018, requesting a response to the allegations leveled against him. When the responses were not forthcoming, she issued a subpoena on 02 October 2018? #LetsGetOurFactsRight https://t.co/mAowTwIyeb

Kanyane says the minister received communication from Mkhwebane in February this year and they have responded.
The public protector is investigating him in connection with an early retirement package offered to former South African Revenue Service (SARS) deputy commissioner, Ivan Pillay.
