Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan delivered his Medium Term Budget Policy Statement, today.
In the statement, Gordhan touched on a number of issues such as the strike actions which have erupted in the country. He says the strikes have dented confidence and lowered growth prospects.
He has predicted an economic growth rate of only 2.5% for this year, rising to 3.8% by 2014.
The Treasury has reduced its estimate of tax revenue by R5 billion, but Gordhan says spending in key areas such as education, health and policing will be maintained. He’s called on South Africans to work together in tackling the country’s challenges.
