The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says the weather in Cape Town “will not be nasty” today.

“We have some few clouds on the mountain, the wind is moderate Southerly. It’s almost perfect,” says SAWS forecaster Stella Nake.

“There is no nasty weather today,” she added.

A number of politicians, celebrities, media and selected people from the public are expected to descend down to parliament to listen to the State of the Nation Adress (SONA). Preparations are already underway with organizers putting in the final touches.

President Jacob Zuma will deliver his address at around 7pm. SABC2 will broadcast the event live. SABCnews.co.za/news will stream the event live.

Security at Parliament is extremely tight today, with several roads around the parliament precint being closed off to traffic.

For the first time this year, there is a security corridor through which guests will have to move. Some of the normal entrances are also closed and others are dedicated to the media.
