Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Patricia de Lille says the 55 new projects being presented to the market are from various sectors valued at about at about R 595 billion.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Patricia de Lille says they have made good progress in infrastructure development since the inauguration of the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA) 15 months ago.

The 2020 symposium which President Cyril Ramaphosa spearheaded, has pitched around 62 projects.

Cabinet adopted the projects in May 2020 and raised R 340 billion in funding commitments from the private sector which helped the struggling fiscus.

This year, government says it is presenting 55 projects to the market.

De Lille was speaking ahead of the second SIDSSA symposium which Ramaphosa will host on Thursday.

She says, “We are also here to provide synopsis of what SIDSSA will cover in 2021. We are now presenting the second round of 55 projects for SIDSSA 2021 to raise funding to get these projects into construction.”

“ The 55 new projects being presented to the market are from various sectors valued at about at about R 595 billion with a funding gap of around R 441 billion,  and the estimated employment opportunities from these projects amount to 548 thousand job opportunities,” She adds.
