GOOD Party to decide whether it intends on going into coalition with other parties

Reading Time: 2 minutes

GOOD Party leader, Patricia de Lille, says the party will in the coming days decide whether it intends to go into a coalition with other parties.

Various political parties are preparing for coalition talks following the Local Government Elections. Results show that the ANC has dipped below the 50% mark for the first time in South Africa’s democratic history.

The DA says it will only agree to stable coalitions. The EFF says it is willing to engage in discussions on coalitions.

De Lille says the election results have proven that South Africans are searching for government alternatives.

“Those entities were able to reduce the majority of both the ANC and the DA. So, I think in the process, we must begin to accept that South Africans are looking for alternatives and as the GOOD Party, we will be in the next few days considering whether we will be going into any coalitions or whether we just want to be a constructive opposition party,” says De Lille.

GOOD party leader reacts as results continue to update:

Meanwhile, the GOOD Party has made some in-roads into the DA’s stronghold of Llandudno in Hout Bay.

The party received almost 3% of the votes counted at the Llandudno Primary School voting station.

The DA’s support in the voting district is over 90%.

These are reflected in the IEC’s Western Cape election results dashboard.

Llandudno forms part of Ward 74 in the broader Hout Bay area.

In 2016, the DA received 98.02% of the votes at the Landudno Primary School voting station.

It still remains the leading party but its support at this voting district has dropped to 91.11%.

The GOOD Party which contested the municipal elections for the first time has received the second highest votes at the voting station, standing at 2.94%.

The FF-Plus which received 0.07 % of the votes in 2016 has now received 2.16% of the votes at the Llandudno Primary School.

Figures also reveal that the ANC’s support at Llanduno has increased marginally from 0.66% to 0.85%.
