Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Emirates Lions go into this year’s 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby campaign with the mission to win the title 10 year’s on from the last time the Vodacom Bulls lifted the trophy.

Golden Lions Rugby chairman Altmann Ahlers called on all four South Africa Rugby Union (Saru) franchises taking part in the Southern Hemisphere tournament to pull up their socks and play to lift the title this year.

Ahlers says the ball is now in all SA franchises teams’ court following the Springboks Rugby World Cup triumph last year.

The Lions also officially announced last year’s Currie Cup head coach Ivan van Rooyen as their new Super Rugby coach for the season.

The former Lions’ 2019 Super Rugby strength and conditioning coach, Van Rooyen, who also worked with his predecessor Swys der Bruyn during last season’s campaign, also named his technical staff for the season ahead of this Sunday’s Vodacom Super Hero Sunday at FNB Stadium.

Van Rooyen has also named Springboks Rugby World Cup-winning flyhalf Elton Jantjies as the Lions captain for this Sunday’s Superhero clash against the Bulls in the absence of regular captain Ross Cronje (out injured).

Jantjies will square up with former Boks veteran flyhalf in Morne Steyn in an intriguing battle of the pivots. Van Rooyen has the entire team.
