Glebelands murder suspects to appear in court

Seven men accused of several murders at the infamous Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi will appear before the Durban Regional Court on Friday.

The accused are facing charges which include 19 counts of murder and attempted murder, which took place at the hostel between 19 August 2014 and 26 March 2016.

The accused include a police sergeant, Bhekukwazi Louis Mdweshu, and a Passenger Rail Agency SA (Prasa) employee. All the accused were denied bail.

The killings at the Glebelands hostel took centre stage during the Moerane commission – However police and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) evidence said the killings were not politically motivated but pure criminality.
