Two hitmen from the Glebelands hostel have been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder by the Durban High Court.

Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbhele says 30 year=old Mxeleleni Bhani and 31 year-old Mbeko Duma were each handed life sentences on Friday for murder, 15 years for possession of two unlicensed firearms and four years for possession of ammunition.

Mbhele says the two men murdered Lamontville Taxi Association chairperson Vela Simon Ndebele in June 2015

“The deceased was shot while he was attending a meeting at the Lamontville community hall and the suspects fled the scene but immediately they were intercepted that day. During the arrest they were found with the two pistols which were used in commissioning of the crime. And all the accused were kept in custody until the case was finalised and the first accused Bhani is also serving a life sentence for killing Sipho Ndovela who was gunned down outside Umlazi court in 2015.”
