Gift of the Givers saves 28 beehives

Humanitarian aid charity organisation, The Gift of the Givers, says it has saved 28 beehives, rescuing over two million bees from the vegetation fire that ravaged large parts of the Southern Cape.

Eight people have died in the Karatara fire in George.

Chairperson and Founder of the Gift of the Givers, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman, says the “Bee Team” has so far traversed over 600 kilometres locating and rescuing beehives.

“We learnt last year it was a discovery for us we learnt that so many bees about 22 million bees lost their lives in the Knysna fire last year and the Gift of the Givers in their support of the remaining bees are putting new beehives and set up a new bee research and rehabilitation centre the Gift of the Givers team from the Bee Centre were proactive, in the last 48 hours they were driving for 39 hours.”
