Gift of the Givers distributes much-needed aid in Ukraine

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Gift of the Givers says it is helping to distribute much-needed aid to Ukrainians as Russia continues its invasion of the country. At least 364 civilians are known to have died since Russia launched its invasion last month.

The Founder of the humanitarian organisation, Imtiaz Sooliman says they have been helping people with getting access to food.

“We have South Africans who are in Ukraine, and this particular SA family who decided to stay in Ukraine. So from Saturday, we have been guiding them on what to do. We told them to go for low-hanging fruit, get whatever you can from the shops, buy and get it sent as soon as possible. We are already funding that to help as many people as possible,” says Sooliman

Gift of the Givers also plans to send medical supplies to Ukraine and assist those who want to go back to their  home countries.

“The second thing is we have made contact with one of the chief coordinators for the Ukrainian government who works from outside government to get stuff across to people. The third option is to fly medical supplies from SA to Poland and then to Ukraine. And we are trying to help those who want to come back home to their countries,” says  Sooliman.
