A veld fire raging
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Residents of various areas in George in the Western Cape have been evacuated to the local town hall, due to veld fires moving close to their homes. The fire started in Herold last week and moved to the Outeniqua Mountains last weekend.

Go George buses transported those who did not have the means to get to the local town hall. Evacuations were made from Blanco, Golden Valley, Step Aside and Fernridge.

The residents of Golden Valley say they are scared that their homes will burnt down.

“It’s very hot in Blanco.  People are packing up their things because the fire is getting closer. Everyone is in shock.  No one thought something like this would happen to us.  I’ve never been through something like this; it’s the first time in my life. “
