Gender commission supports call for women inclusion in economy

Reading Time: < 1 minute

South Africa needs to do more to include women in the macro economy. This is according to Janine Hicks of the Commission for Gender Equality.

Hicks was speaking in an interview on the SABC Morning Live show, responding to the findings of government’s first Report on the Status of Women in South Africa.

The report was released by President Jacob Zuma on Sunday, during Women’s Day celebrations at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose centre in Zamdela, Sasolburg north of Free State.

Agreeing with the President, Hicks says substantive interventions are needed to ensure that women become part of the macro economy.
