Reading Time: 2 minutes

The case against 43-year-old, Yibanathi MacGyver Ndema, from Zingqayi village near Butterworth, who is accused of the murder of his wife has been postponed to next week Friday.

Ndema appeared briefly in the local magistrate’s court on counts of premeditated murder and defeating the ends of justice.

He was arrested on Monday after remains believed to be that of his wife, Noluvuyo Nonkwelo, were found buried under the bathroom floor in the couple’s home.

She went missing in July 2019.

The National Prosecuting Authority Spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali says Ndema elected to be represented by Legal Aid South Africa.

“Ndema went to report his wife as a missing person to the police even though he knew that he had killed her. Police arrested Ndema on Monday after human remains believed to be that of Nonkwelo were found buried underneath a bathtub in the bathroom of the house the couple shared. During today’s (Wednesday) court appearance, Ndema elected to be represented by Legal Aid South Africa and indicated that he wishes to be released on bail. The State indicated that it will oppose bail in this matter,” says Tyali .
