Gauteng traffic police says they are concerned over irresponsible driving behaviour during this Easter weekend.

This follows an incident where a 33-year-old female officer was knocked down by a 35-year-old female drunk driver.

High compliance levels on roads ahead of Easter weekend:

The officer was conducting a law enforcement operation on Friday evening.

The incident occurred on the N14 Pretoria/ Krugersdorp freeway next to the R55.

Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Sello Maremane says, “Upon inspection by the officers who were on duty with the affected officer, the suspect was found to be driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor. The breathalyzer reading recorded 1.29 milligram per 1 000 milliliters which is five times over the legal limit of 0.24 milligram.

The driver was immediately arrested and detained at Olievenhoutbosch Police Station to face charges relating to Driving under the influence of intoxicating alcohol as well as an alternative charge of reckless and negligent driving.”
