The Gauteng Education Department has urged parents to include their residential work address when applying for Grade 1 and 8 placements for the 2027 academic year.
As the online application process opened on Thursday, parents have until the 4th of September to submit applications.
Gauteng Education MEC’s spokesperson, Onwabile Lubhelwana says the residential work address assists in placement of learners en-route to work for parents.
“We want a person from Alexandra, from Tembisa, from Soshanguve, who would prefer their child to go to a school closer to work, to be able to use it. But also, we also want the learners from poor families to be able to access schools in the suburban areas. Some parents travel with their kids to school, to work, and they share a transport. That also takes away the burden of transporting that child from the government.”
