About 37 000 Gauteng members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Metro Police and support staff have been targeted for COVID-19 vaccinations.

This follows the launch of the police vaccination site at Moot Police Station in Pretoria on Friday.

It is one of the 15 sites that law enforcement agencies will access for vaccination in the province.

Gauteng’s Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko say officers will get vaccinated as the fight against the third COVID-19 wave continues.

“As we continue fighting this wave in Gauteng,  our officers are also now going to be vaccinated. It means we will have a lesser number of infected people because they are expected to go do their work. So indeed it is a great day and the Premier is also excited as he was looking forward to this. We were all worried [about] why we were not included but finally, we are taking our jab. Over 37 000 officers including support staff will be vaccinated and all other people.”
