The South African Weather Services has forecast a heat wave in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. It says the current heat wave is expected to last for the most part of this week, with temperatures ranging between 34 and 41 degrees celsius.

The Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Malaudzi says people living and working in the affected areas must take precautions.

“Residents must stay cool, keep hydrated by making sure that they drink lots of water, make sure that they avoid exposing themselves to this extreme heat because it can cause heat exhaustion, heat cramps and also heat stroke.”
