Gauteng Traffic Police say law enforcement agencies will be out in full force as holidaymakers return to the province as the heritage weekend draws to an end.

They say major roads leading into the province are expected to be congested. These include the N1 from Polokwane, N3 from Durban, N12 from Potchefstroom, as well as N4 from Rustenburg and Mpumalanga.

The Gauteng Traffic Spokesperson Sello Maremane says so far, eight people have lost their lives on the province’s roads.

“These accidents were as a result of many road users not adhering to the rules of the road. It is against this backdrop that Gauteng police will remain on high alert to ensure the safety of road users. Gauteng traffic police would like to issue a stern warning to road users who continue to disregard the rules of the road that lawlessness will not be tolerated.”
