Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Gauteng Department of Health and Wellness has dismissed as false rumours that have been circulating on social media platforms about the alleged closure of the Helen Joseph Hospital Breast Clinic.

The department says the clinic is fully operational and there is no intention of closing it.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department also says it reminds the public that the best tool to prevent cancer related deaths is through screening and early detection.

Gauteng Department Health Head of Communications, Motalatale Modiba warns the public not to fall for such rumours and to desist from spreading such fake and unverified news as this creates unnecessary tension.

“The clinic is fully operational and there is no intention of closing it. The Department warns the public not fall for such rumours and to desist from spreading such fake and unverified news as this creates unnecessary tension and panic for the community and for people that are in need of the services we offer at the Breast Clinic. We urge the public to prioritise regular screening and testing.”
