Gauteng government to roll-out its sanitisation solution programme

The Gauteng government will on Wednesday morning roll-out its province-wide Sanitisation solution programme in the fight against COVID-19.
As part of the ongoing efforts to help curb and combat the spread of the coronavirus, Human Settlements MEC Lebogang Maile, will launch the programme in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg.
On Monday, the Gauteng Health Department confirmed that there was a confirmed case of the virus in the township.
The sanitisation solution seeks to propel Section 24 of the Constitution by ensuring that measures are put in place to protect and safeguard the rights of citizens against a harmful  environment which could arise out of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Gauteng province-wide Sanitization solution will comprise of the Decontamination of Public Areas, Fogging of Public Buildings and Direct Household Sanitisation. Hand sanitisers will also be distributed to residents at the Hellen Joseph Hostel, Stjwetla informal settlement and Pan African Mall.

 

Visits to Gauteng hospitals not allowed during lockdown

The Gauteng Health Department has again reminded the public that no hospital visits are allowed for the duration of the lockdown.

It says only emergencies, surgical out-patients, pregnant women and medical out-patients who are booked to collect their medication will be allowed at hospitals. The department is concerned that community members continue to visit in numbers at public hospitals to see their loved ones.

The department’s spokesperson is Kwara Kekana says, “We wish to inform the public that visiting times as of Thursday, 26 March 2020, have been cancelled at all Gauteng public hospitals for the duration of lockdown period.”

“Everyone will be expected to be sanitised when entering our premises and everyone will be screened for COVID-19. Depending on the outcomes of the screening, patients will be directed accordingly to triage points set up in our facilities. Lastly, anyone with respiratory symptoms will be provided with a mask.” Kekana adds.
