Gauteng Future Champs wraps up group stages

The 2019 Gauteng Future Champions under 17 tournament in Soweto wrapped up the group stages on Wednesday and the action featured some of the finest footballing youngsters this region has to offer, in the form of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Kaizer Chiefs were first up, against Spartak Moscow of Russia. Chiefs had lost to European opponents in their opening fixture, but beat a Chinese team in their second fixture.

Spartak was in the same boat, with one win, and a loss to Bidvest Wits going into their final group match.

It would be the Russian club’s on Wednesday, with a goal in either half to see off Chiefs, 2-0.

Orlando Pirates’ form was better going into their match-up against Espanyol of Spain; they won both their opening matches. However, three first half goals from Espanyol, one of them an own goal put paid to Pirates perfect record.
