The city of Pietermaritzburg came alive with history on Thursday morning in commemoration of the historical moment in the life of lawyer Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
He became the peace icon now referred to as Gandhiji. On June the seventh 1893 Gandhi was thrown off a train in Pietermaritzburg because he was not allowed to travel first class as he was a person of colour.
The Pietermaritzburg Gandhi Committee in partnership with the Indian government will hosting a series of events to make the significant moment.
