Fed-up with looting, residents of Katlehong, in Ekurhuleni, headed to the Hlahatsi Shopping Centre and took turns guarding it overnight.
The centre is the only shopping area that looters haven’t put their hands on since the looting and destruction of property began in the township, situated east of Johannesburg.
Community members say many of the township’s residents are employed at the centre, which helps families keep hunger at bay.
