The ABSA Stadium in Durban has all but been taken over by the ANC this weekend for Saturday’s January 8 Statement rally, which is expected to draw a capacity crowd.
President Jacob Zuma is expected to deliver the January 8 statement between 11am and 12pm on behalf of the new National Executive Committee (NEC) elected at the recent 53rd ANC National Conference in Mangaung last month.. The purpose of the annual anniversary statement is to outline the ANC’s plans and policies for the year ahead. Traditionally the event is held on the Saturday after January 8 to allow as many people to attend.
The stadium was being draped in the ANC’s colours of black, yellow and green on Friday afternoon while workers went about their business setting up the stage and other areas amid intermittent drizzle.
