Funeral service for two Orange farm children under way

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The funeral service of two children found murdered in a street in Orange Farm south of Johannesburg is under way. Six-year-old Simphiwe Mncina and nine-year-old Mpho Makondo were reported missing last week Friday.

Their bodies were found the following day. The alleged kidnapping and murder of children have been in the spotlights recently prompting residents of Orange Farm to embark on a march on Wednesday calling for more police protection against their children.

Orange Farm residents accuse police of inaction:

The Orange farm community hall is packed with residents coming out to pay their last respects to the two children.  While the speakers are taking turns to the podium to describe how loving, wonderful and inseparable Simphiwe and Mpho were even in their death, outside the hall a group of women dressed in black are picketing, chanting, and holding placards with the words: ‘STOP KILLING OUR CHILDREN.’

They have blamed the local police for the murders of children – the third such murder in just five months – and have accused the officers of not doing enough to protect these innocent souls.

The children will be laid to rest at Funvalley cemetery near Eldorado Park.
