In April this year, the security of South Africa was called into question as an unauthorised civilian aircraft was allowed to land in Waterkloof Airforce Base outside of Pretoria.
The plane was carrying 200 guests of the Gupta family from India, who where attending a lavish wedding at Sun City.
The landing threw into relief President Jacob Zuma’s relationship with the Gupta family, and there was widespread speculation on who “Number 1” is. A government investigation exonerated the President. Several members of the SA National Defence Force faced what was said to be charges that had been watered down.
