From Arts to Democracy

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The 24th of September marks the day where all South Africans unite and celebrate their heritage in diversity.

The resistance to apartheid not only involved the throwing of stones and burning of tyres, but some people like Gerald Sekoto used arts to expose the indignity done by the system.

SABC News spoke to the Gerald Sekoto Foundation about Sekoto’s art work and how his paintings told the story of black people under apartheid.

According to a Trustee at the Gerald Sekoto foundation, Barbara Lindop, Sekoto’s paintings remain an integral part of the South African identity.
