Germany’s Jan Frodeno has taken the title of the World Ironman 70.3 Champion in Port Elizabeth.

It was a tight race but Frodeno came out on top, adding his third world championship title to his collection.

America’s Ben Kanute was out of the water first with Spain’s Javier Gomez close on his tail.

Frodeno however was strong on the bike, leading the pack into the transition area with second place finisher Allistar Brownlee not far behind him.

2017 winner Gomez caught up on the run, sticking like glue to Frodeno.

A stitch to his side however cost him defending his title. Frodeno won this title in a time of three hours, 36 minutes and 30 seconds.

His triathlon career started in South Africa and he lived he lived here too.  South Africa’s James Cunnama finished 19th overall.
