FUL takes cautious approach to Sassa deal

11 December 2017, 10:15 AM  |
SABC SABC |  @SABCNews

Freedom Under Law (FUL) says it remains sceptical about the signing of the services agreement between the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the South Africa Post Office (Sapo).

It joined the Black Sash in the Constitutional Court case.

FUL chairperson, retired Justice Johan Kriegler, says they want to see the contract before giving a full comment.

“We have not seen the contract. At this stage we are still a little sceptical, we’ve had very little comments from the Minister in the past. We will just have to wait and see if the vehicle is quite as fancy as the Minister says it is.”

However, the Democratic Alliance has welcomed the signing of the agreement.

It is now calling on Sassa to table the agreement in Parliament in order to give members an opportunity to interrogate the feasibility of the proposed timelines and cost estimates.
