Free State Stars coach defends decision to axe goalkeeper coach

Free State Stars Belgian Coach Luc Eymael insists there were no hard feelings in his decision to axe the club’s long-serving Goalkeeper Coach Walter Khumalo. Khumalo was replaced by Tunisian Moured Selmi.

Eymael says he has identified some concerns in the goalkeeping department hence the decision to opt for immediate changes.

Stars who are eighth on the Absa Premiership log table have conceded 13 goals in 12 league matches.

Eymael is confident that they will be able plug in holes in their leaking defence, starting with their Sunday league fixture against Bloemfontein Celtic.

“We thought that after perhaps four years in the club it is time to bring some new ideas in matter of goalkeeper training. I knew Moured (Selmi) because I worked with him in Tunisia. I worked with him at Zamalek. You know, already when I arrived people asked me to look about this department. But I wanted first to focus on my job with the team. You have to know that I’m a former goalkeeper, so I can analyse what has been down in the training. I can analyse also the games of my goalkeepers.”
