Free State residents reflect on Freedom Day

Thousands of people  across the country are expected to gather at the Dr Petros Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein  where President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the keynote address on Friday.

The National Freedom day celebration to take place at taking place at Dr Petrus Molemela stadium in Bloemfontein.

President Ramaphosa at this year’s celebration is expected to touch on issues such as economic growth, unemployment and how government plans to fight corruption and racism among other things.

Some local residents say they are not free because they still don’t have places to stay.

They say they hope President Ramaphosa will give a clear direction of how the government plans to give them their land back.

In recent months, people have been grabbing pieces of unoccupied land across the country.

Meanwhile, technicians are busy setting up the stage while members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) and South African National Defense Force have also barricaded parts of the Dr Rantli Molemela Stadium.

This year’s theme of Freedom Month celebrations is “The Year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: Towards Full Realisation of Our Freedom through Radical Socio-economic Transformation.”
