Police in Welkom, Free State, have arrested 15 rival members of the IJP and Al Qaeda gangs. This follows the murder of a 69-year-old woman and attacks on three other people at a house in Welkom.
The house was allegedly ransacked and cellphones were stolen.
Free State Police Spokesperson Motantsi Makhele says they have arrested 8 Al Qaeda gang members and seven from the IJP for murder, arson and malicious damage to property.
“We suspect this is a revenge out of that incident, because according to our investigation, there was a house which burnt by al Qaeda gang where some of the inhabitants were alleged to be IJP members as a result hence we say this might be an act of revenge all these arrested people are expected to appear in Welkom magistrate court on Tuesday.”
