Free State opposition parties reject ANC’s Premiership candidate

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Opposition parties in the Free State have rejected Co-operative Governance MEC Sisi Ntombela as the African National Congress’ preferred candidate for the premiership.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), Economic Freedom Fighters and Freedom Front Plus have argued that it is under Ntombela’s watch that three Free State municipalities have been placed under administration for poor governance.

Free State municipalities owe Eskom and water boards a total debt of over R8 billion rand. The DA’s Lehlohonolo Letuka says Ntombela, who is also ANC Women’s League Deputy President is not fit to lead the province.

“This is not the type of a person who is an independent thinker; this is not the type of a person who is going to take initiative in bringing fresh and new ideas. You know, to service the communities of the Free-State, we are really scared that the thing is going to spiral down. There is no upward movement at all as far as we are concerned. So we are not happy at all.”
