Members of the African National Congress (ANC) are expected to march to the Free State government headquarters in Bloemfontein on Wednesday to hand over their memorandum of grievances.
They demand that action be taken against those implicated in multimillion rand corruption allegations including the R225-million asbestos audit tender, the Estina Dairy farm and the dysfunctional Bloem taxi rank.
They will also picket at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court where seven people and five businesses will be appearing this morning for their alleged involvement in the irregular awarding of the asbestos audit tender.
Premier alarmed by high profile arrests
Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela has since expressed shock by high profile arrests in the multimillion asbestos saga.
The seven suspects include former Free State Human Settlements MEC Olly Mlamleli and former ANC MP Vincent Smith.
The Assets Forfeiture Unit also obtained a provisional restraint order to freeze the assets of the accused worth R300 million.
Ntombela has called for the law to take its course.
Meanwhile, political analyst Tinyiko Maluleke described the arrests as encouraging, however says they will mean nothing if the suspects are not successfully prosecuted.
