Free State ANC in leadership race

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The race is on for the Free State African National Congress (ANC) leadership following a high court order in December that disbanded the province’s PEC.

Supporters of Free State Sports MEC Mathabo Leeto are pulling all the stops to have her replace the party’s longest-serving provincial chairperson Ace Magashule.

Leeto has previously served as the ANC chairperson in the Lejweleputswa region.

Spokesperson for Leeto’s campaign, Fezile Sonkwala says they have garnered enough support in the Mangaung region.

“We as members and branch leaders of ANC from across the length and breadth of Mangaung region in Free State wish to state on record, that we wholeheartedly support comrade Mathabo Leeto in her campaign to be ANC Free State chairperson, following the dissolution of the PEC here in Free State. It is our firm view that comrade Mathabo Leeto is a seasoned a capable leader of ANC, and that she stands a better chance to lead our movement at this critical time where our movement is seeking to renew and unite itself.”
