France FACTBOX

Reading Time: 2 minutes

FIFA ranking: 2

Coach: Didier Deschamps

As a player, Deschamps captained France to victories at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000. After taking charge of Les Blues in 2012, he led them to World Cup glory in 2018 and could secure a second international double of his career at the Euros.

Captain: Hugo Lloris

Lloris is an excellent shot-stopper but is nonetheless prone to high-profile errors. At 34, with 123 caps to his name, he is still France’s undisputed number one.

Top player: Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe lit up the World Cup as a teenager during France’s triumphant campaign in 2018. With his ruthless goal scoring instinct, combined with skill and speed, he will be looking to dominate the Euros this summer in a similar fashion.

Tournament history

France have participated in nine European Championships and won two titles – in 1984 on home soil and in 2000, two years after their World Cup victory.

Les Bleus finished runners-up in 2016 on home soil, losing1-0 to Portugal after extra time.
