FPB to start reviewing its classification guidelines

The Film and Publications Board (FPB) will start reviewing its classification guidelines to consider including culture and domestic violence as warnings on TV and films locally.

This emerged at a roundtable discussion about the role of the FPB following media frenzy about the classification of the movie Inxeba – The Wound in 2017.

FPB chairperson Thoko Mpumlwana wants the public to comment on the guidelines for the classification of content on TV, film and video games as it starts the review process later this week.

“Inxeba has taught us to begin to ask ourselves should we say something about culture because we don’t have that. We have an advisory on blasphemy but we don’t have anything specific on culture. And we have on one side traditional authorities who are saying don’t club us with blasphemy we want a straight forward advisory or even a classification on culture,” adds Mpumlwana.
