A Cape Town family is devastated following the death of four of its members in a fire in Vrygrond near Muizenberg.
Humphrey Nkhoma and three of his children, six-year-old Mbali, 11-year-old Onako and four-month old Chiyamiko died when a fire destroyed their mortar and brick home on Sunday.
The mother was not present when the fire broke out.
Nkhoma’s brother, Themba Yona, says the family is devastated.
“We are not well, we feel very confused. I was with him on Saturday not knowing that such a thing would happen.”
Community members flocked to the scene as word of the tragedy began to spread.
Neighbour Naziema Arries says: “As a mother, I am much traumatised because of what happened. It’s a sad moment for each and every one of us who have families.”
Fire and rescue authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
