Four killed in separate Limpopo crashes

Four people have been killed in three separate crashes in various parts of Limpopo in the past 24 hours.

Two people, a passenger and a driver, were killed on the N1 outside Modimolle when their car crashed into a van.

In another crash, a passenger was killed and 11 others injured when a van overturned after a tyre burst in Mphagane village outside Giyani.

In Itsani village outside Thohoyandou, a driver was killed after his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

Traffic spokesperson Mike Maringa says speeding and reckless driving are the suspected causes of the crashes.

“The Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, is concerned that the province is experiencing serious crashes between Friday and Monday morning, with common cause being speed and reckless driving. The MEC is urging drivers to adhere to the road rules and to avoid speed the MEC was reacting to the reported three crashes that claimed four lives in three different districts of the province this morning (Monday).”
