Former SARS employees to appear in court

Three former SA Revenue Services (SARS) employees are expected to appear in Pretoria regional court on Monday for on charges of corruption and the contravention of the RICA Act.

Ivan Pillay, Johann van Loggerenberg and Andries Janse van Rensburg are accused for the involvement in the so-called SARS ‘rogue unit’. They allegedly spied on the now defunct Scorpions and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in 2007.

According to the  NPA’s charge sheet, Pillay and Van Loggerenberg also allegedly offered to give former SARS official Helgard Lombard R100 000 to carry out the spy operation-known as Project Sunday Evenings.
