The trial of former North West deputy police commissioner, General William Mpembe, and three senior police officers, charged with allegedly concealing the death of one of the 34 mine workers killed in Marikana has been postponed to the 12th of August.

The four top cops have also been charged with contravening the IPID’s act, after allegedly failing to disclose the death of  mine worker, Modisaotsile Sagalala.

The state says he died in the back of a police van while being transported to the cells.

In their statement, police had recorded that Sagalala died with the other 34 mine workers at the Marikana koppie on the 16th of August, 2012.

Over thirty witnesses, including IPID investigators are expected to testify.
