Two former employees from the Mossel Bay Municipality in the Western Cape have each been sentenced in the local magistrate’s court to an effective three years imprisonment for fraud connected to burial plots.

The Hawks in the province say Megan Abdul and Francis Majola were convicted on 23 charges of fraud totalling 140 000 for crimes committed in 2016 and 2018.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation says Abdul and Majola were involved in changing the status of burial plots purchased by funeral undertakers without them being aware of the changes and pocketing the cash.
