Former crime intelligence officer arrested for fraud to apply for bail

Former crime intelligence officer Lesiba Tshabalala “KGB” arrested on allegations of fraud, is on Friday expected to apply for bail in the Pretoria Special Commercial Crimes court.

Tshabalala was arrested by the IPID on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding the SAPS crime intelligence slash fund.

According the charge sheet, Tshabalala is unemployed, but when arrested he was in possession of a police intelligence vehicle.

The police also need to verify allegations of his involvement in the R2 million heist at O.R. Tambo International Airport last year.

Tshabalala is facing five charges of fraud, corruption and theft that drag as far back as 2013.

He was convicted for armed robbery in 1996, but evaded prison while serving as a crime intelligence officer.

Tshabalala was arrested again in 2013 and was out on parole during his recent arrest.
